The Tender Bar
J.R. is a fatherless child growing up in the glow of a bar where the bartender, his Uncle Charlie, is the sharpest and most colorful of a variety of wacky and also demonstrative father figures. As the kid's identified mom battles to provide her son with opportunities denied to her-- as well as leave the run-down house of her outrageous if begrudgingly encouraging father-- J.R. begins to gamely, otherwise always with dignity, seek his enchanting and also professional desires, with one foot constantly positioned in Uncle Charlie's bar.
