Derek Vineyard is paroled after serving three years in prison for murdering. Through his brother, Danny Vineyard's narration, we know that before going to prison, Derek was a skinhead and the pioneer of a violent white supremacist group who committed acts of racial offense all through L.A. along with his actions heavily influenced Danny. and reformed out of prison, Derek severs touch and becomes determined to keep Danny from moving down the path that is violent as he did.
